Joint Ocean Expedition Aboard ‘Sagar Nidhi’-

Scientists from Bangladesh and Mauritius have joined forces in a collaborative initiative called the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) in the Indian Ocean Region. Together, they have embarked on an ocean expedition aboard the research vessel 'Sagar Nidhi' to conduct extensive research and exploration in the vast oceanic expanse. The expedition is organized by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), operating under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. This significant undertaking stems directly from the inaugural CSC Oceanographers and Hydrographers conference held in Goa and Hyderabad in November 2022.

Engaging in Ocean Data and Management Research

In this joint endeavor, the scientists involved will concentrate on studying oceanic data to anticipate and manage shifts in the marine environment and its various characteristics. The objective of this research is to enhance our comprehension of the oceans and their ecosystems, facilitating improved management and conservation practices. By analyzing oceanic data, scientists can gain valuable knowledge regarding the effects of climate change, pollution, and other factors that influence marine life.

Narcotics Control Bureau Training

Alongside the ocean expedition, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is organizing a five-day training program for the countries involved in the Colombo Security Conclave. Sri Lanka, Maldives, and other participating nations, along with India, are actively participating in this initiative. The training primarily focuses on crucial topics such as maritime drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, financial investigations, and investigations related to the darknet and cryptocurrency. The NCB aims to strengthen the capabilities of the participating countries in combating illegal activities and fostering regional security through this program.
